JUNIORS

We are hoping to run several junior teams this year.

Minkey. Will be held at Grahamstown Public School, Raymond Terrace on Saturday mornings. Fees will be around the $40 mark, with no additional weekly fees. Minkey is like a big training session where the participants are taught the skills of hockey through fun activities and drills. There is also the opportunity to play a game as well in a non competitive environment. In 2009 we had 52 registered Minkey players.

U10, U13 and U18 in the Maitland Competition. These games will be played on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening, starting from 5pm on the synthetic surface in Maitland Park. All games will be 1/2 field 7 a side and will be mixed. Great for the young developing player, or the older teenagers who want a social run without the ultra competitiveness of the Newcastle competition. Costs are yet to be determined, but it is envisaged for U10 it will be around $60 a player for the season, U13 and U18s will be around $180 for the season. Please note that we are looking at subsidising the U13 and U18 costs, depending on the number of sponsors the club can source.

U15 Boys in the Newcastle competition. This is a serious competition against the best boys in this age group, the future senior players of the club. Games willl be mostly Friday evenings, with the possibillity of the odd Wednesday night game, depending on number of teams involved. All games are at the Hockey Center in Newcastle. Cost will likely be around the $180 mark.

SENIORS

Graded Hockey in Newcastle. Our senior Mens teams will compete once again in the highly rated Newcastle Mens Hockey Association Competition. We will be nominating again in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, with the possibility of a 6th Grade side if we can get the numbers. Costs are expected to be close to the 2009 figures. Most games are Sundays, and played at Newcastle and the occasional game at Maitland.

Mid Week Maitland. We will be entering a team in the Monday night Maitland Mens Competition. This is 1/2 field 7 a side, and great for fitness and skills development. Costs will be around $140 for players who also play in the Newcastle teams, or $225 approx for those who only wish to play Monday nights.

Training will begin in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Well the season is just around the corner so nows the time to let the club know your intentions.

It is a club goal to get that 4th team up and running this season, so we are looking for a handful of new players to come and join the mighty Hornets. If you know anyone of playing age (15 to 80) then we will take them. Encourage your mates to give the game we all love a try.

The first official act for 2010 will be a meeting on the 28th January at the Bull n Bush hotel, Medowie from 7pm. Come along and have input for the season. We particularly want ideas on potential new sponers. Get down there and give it a whirl.

New players can send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or give the President a call on 0249828056.

2009 Presso night was awesome!
Sunday, 01 November 2009 13:05

The 2009 Presentation Night was held October 31st. Using Halloween as the theme, 42 people attended and came dressed in all sorts of attire, including Fred Flinstone, Freddy Kruger, vampires, pirates, devils, witches, snow white, whenches, White Lightning and a Crusaders Supporter, to name a few. The Nelson Bay Bowling Club played host and provided a great view and facility for the evening.

Special Guests included Greg Patterson and Vince Northwood, two of the longest serving members during the clubs history. It was a real privilidge to have these icons of the club present, hearing some of the old stories and a bit of history of the club. Hopefully next season we can attract a few more of the old skool guys.

Anyways, the awards. Its always fun to do the novelty awards, and they did not dissapoint this season. The Golden Crutch was claimed by Brodie, who has a horrible injury which could see him out for a full season. Scott got the Axe which was for the night renamed to the Handbag award for his midemeanor during the season. Angela who was dressed up as a horny devil was the crowd favourite and took home first prize in the Fancy Dress competition, although up against Jugga and George it was an unfair victory.

The serious stuff saw many of the clubs players rewarded for thier outstanding seasons.

Team awards were as follows: 5th Grade saw Greg Towers claim the Team Player award, Stuart Churchill the Most Improved and Sean 'sparkles' Forsyth the MVP. 4th Grade gave Team Player to Chris Southall, Joshua Barnett secured Most Improved, and Andrew Germon got MVP. 3rd Grade gave Most Consistent to Graydon Hubbard, Team Player went to Todd Denholm and the team voted Paul Baxter as MVP.

The club awards were given to Paul Baxter for Club MVP, Craig Gazzard taking the O40's Player of the Year trophy, Jeremy Miller was a popular choice for Best Junior playing Seniors, and Scott Rainbow took the all new "Greg Patterson Club Person of the Year" award.

The Association continued its awrding of Games Played, with 6 men notching up 100 games during the season. Craig Gazzard, Justin Rainbow, Brad Willcocks, Brodie Winner, Sean Forsyth and Darren Stocks all achieved the milestone during the season. Congratulations boys.

Once you play for the Hornets, your a Hornet for life!!!!
